ICI TV Ludmilla Moshek 1997 1/2Art in an eventful life Ludmilla Moshek, a child of Ukrainian parents, was born in Siberia in 1953. Her father was working there temporarily as a mine engineer but later the family returned to Donetsk (Ukraine). At the age of 13, Ludmilla's education was entrusted to the care of one of the best known artists of the region (M. Geltianikov), who gave her a solid grounding in painting. At the age of 17, Ludmilla won first prize in an exhibition in Donetsk. Alongside her artistic education, she completed studies in economics at the University of Kiev (Ukraine). After her degree, Ludmilla found a job in the Finance Department in Poltava. For Ludmilla, who needed freedom of expression in more than just her artwork, the oppressive and constricting political regime of the former Soviet Union soon became a torment. In 1975 she applied for a position teaching mathematics in Nigeria (a country that was then politically close to the Soviet Union). She was accepted, left her homeland and went to teach in Africa for seven years! In 1983, Ludmilla decided to give up her job in Nigeria in order to travel to Sweden. There she first learnt the language in order to then continue her studies in economics at the University of Stockholm and gain a second qualification, this time according to western market-economy principles! After five years she took Swedish citizenship. For the first time in her life, she could, as a Swede, move freely and undisturbed about the world. She made use of this <b>...</b>
