MEET APRIL RODRIGUEZ Philippine-born April Rodriguez moved to the US at the age of 7. While living in a small province in the Philippines, her parents had bigger plans for the family, so they made the difficult move to America with barely any knowledge of the country or friends. At that time, she was a very shy girl, raised on traditional, conservative Filipino values, who spent most of her time watching Michael and Janet Jackson, KidSongs Video tapes, Boyz II Men, and TLC, dreaming that one day she'd be able to perform on big stages and have as much talent and self-confidence as they do. At the age of 18, April's two younger sisters May and June started freestyling and attending "Hip Hop" classes at Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood. There,April took her first "Hip Hop" classes under Jayson Wright and Super Dave, who've heavily influenced her mentality in dance today. While attending UC Irvine, April joined Kaba Modern who was featured on America's Best Dance Crew. She also trained with Supergalactic Beat Manipulators under the directorship of KJ Gonzales, Lando Wilkins (Boxcuttuhz), Ben Chung (Jabbawockeez), and Kevin Brewer (Jabbawockeez). She is thankful to SGBM for teaching her the meaning of BEAT MANIPULATING, musicality, and control. April currently dances with Essence Ladies founded by Gigi Torres--a group of strong women who tour the world teaching dance workshops and inspiring community and creation through their craft.
